After attending the Cape Henlopen Writers' Retreat sponsored by the Delaware Division of the Arts, several participants wanted to continue the sense of community. Former Delaware Poet Laureate Fleda Brown encouraged them to form their own writing group. By January 2007, these writers of poetry, fiction and nonfiction had met and formed a writers' critique group. Since they hailed from above and below the Chesapeake and Delaware Canal, they called themselves The TransCanal Writers. The group continues to meet monthly for critique, encouragement, and enjoyment. Their goals as a group are to continue to grow as writers, to participate in public readings, and to publish both individually and collectively.
